The Capital Area Intermediate Unit offers direct services to students with Limited English Proficiency available on a contracted basis through local school districts. 

CAIU teachers hold Pennsylvania Instructional Certificates and Program Specialist Certificates: ELD/ESL. Our teachers are highly motivated and knowledgeable in teaching students who are culturally and linguistically diverse. 

Teachers are assigned to schools on an as-needed basis via the district contract. Services include initial and ongoing assessment, individual or small group direct instruction, staff development, supervision, logistics/scheduling, research-based instruction, teaching materials, access to a database developed and maintained by the CAIU to track state-required information on demographics and achievement, and consultation on ELD/ESL program compliance.
