Positive Behavior Support Services

Positive Behavior Support as Supports to School Personnel

Activities designed to support staff in their attempts to provide appropriate educational programming to specific students with challenging behaviors are available on a fee for service basis.

  • Supports are provided by one of the CAIU’s Educational Consultants or Behavior Specialists, as assigned.
  • Consultation and support may be provided to staff, who are employed by a local district or by the CAIU, at the current hourly rate for CAIU itinerant services.
  • Such supports may include but not be limited to assistance in conducting initial screenings, functional behavioral assessments, collecting data, developing/writing behavioral intervention plans, implementing plans and making necessary modifications/revisions, and co-teaching and guided practice to promote transfer of learning for staff.
  • The specific ‘supports to school personnel’ will be outlined in the corresponding section of a student’s IEP.
  • The above supports are available via Central Referral and will be verified with a CAIU Contract Addendum.

Positive Behavior Support as a Related Service

Activities designed to provide direct support and/or instruction to a specific student with behavior difficulties on a regular, on-going basis are available on a fee for service basis.

  • This direct intervention with a specific student will be considered a related service and should be included on the student’s IEP.
  • Such direct support will have a specific frequency and duration, as indicated on the student’s IEP.
  • Direct services are provided by one of the CAIU’s Educational Consultants or Behavioral Specialists, as assigned.
  • Direct services may be provided to students in a district or CAIU setting, at the current hourly rate for CAIU itinerant services.
  • Direct services may include but are not limited to teaching the designated student replacement skills, social skills, and/or strategies and techniques outlined in the student’s Behavioral Intervention Plan, debriefing with the student about specific incidents (both + or -), and providing coaching and guided practice to assist the student in the transfer of specific skills/strategies.
  • The above supports are available via Central Referral and will be verified with a CAIU Contract Addendum.

*Positive behavior supports are a necessary component of the educational program for students with an Emotionally Disturbed diagnosis, and therefore are inherent in the CAIU’s program of Emotional Support without additional cost.
