Positive Behavior Support as Supports to School Personnel
Activities designed to support staff in their attempts to provide appropriate educational programming to specific students with challenging behaviors are available on a fee for service basis.
- Supports are provided by one of the CAIU’s Educational Consultants or Behavior Specialists, as assigned.
- Consultation and support may be provided to staff, who are employed by a local district or by the CAIU, at the current hourly rate for CAIU itinerant services.
- Such supports may include but not be limited to assistance in conducting initial screenings, functional behavioral assessments, collecting data, developing/writing behavioral intervention plans, implementing plans and making necessary modifications/revisions, and co-teaching and guided practice to promote transfer of learning for staff.
- The specific ‘supports to school personnel’ will be outlined in the corresponding section of a student’s IEP.
- The above supports are available via Central Referral and will be verified with a CAIU Contract Addendum.
Positive Behavior Support as a Related Service
Activities designed to provide direct support and/or instruction to a specific student with behavior difficulties on a regular, on-going basis are available on a fee for service basis.
- This direct intervention with a specific student will be considered a related service and should be included on the student’s IEP.
- Such direct support will have a specific frequency and duration, as indicated on the student’s IEP.
- Direct services are provided by one of the CAIU’s Educational Consultants or Behavioral Specialists, as assigned.
- Direct services may be provided to students in a district or CAIU setting, at the current hourly rate for CAIU itinerant services.
- Direct services may include but are not limited to teaching the designated student replacement skills, social skills, and/or strategies and techniques outlined in the student’s Behavioral Intervention Plan, debriefing with the student about specific incidents (both + or -), and providing coaching and guided practice to assist the student in the transfer of specific skills/strategies.
- The above supports are available via Central Referral and will be verified with a CAIU Contract Addendum.
*Positive behavior supports are a necessary component of the educational program for students with an Emotionally Disturbed diagnosis, and therefore are inherent in the CAIU’s program of Emotional Support without additional cost.
