The Capital Area Intermediate Unit (CAIU) will NO LONGER be hosting the Guest Teacher Training on 1/28/20 – 1/29/20 due to lack of interest. Please stay tuned to our website for dates of future trainings.
Upon completion of the course, Guest Teachers will be able to apply for an emergency permit through the PA Department of Education, which will allow them to be a substitute teacher in the schools and/or districts the CAIU serves.
Note: The Guest Teacher Training is designed for those who would like to substitute in more than one/several districts. If you are interested in only subbing in one particular school/district, please check with that school/district to determine what its specific requirements are for being a substitute.
Qualifications
To qualify as a Guest Teacher, participants must hold at least a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and be able to work in a PA public school (see PDE Form 6004 for list of exclusions). Participants must be able to be present and complete both days of training in order to obtain an emergency permit.
Cost
Cost is $80.00, which includes the cost of the two day training and obtaining your emergency permit. Payment must be received prior to the day of the training.
Lunch will be one hour on your own (NOT provided as part of the training).
Checklist of Requirements
On your first day of training, registration will begin at 7:30am and you MUST bring with you:
